I had a really great February and I wanted to share my experience with you.

As some of you may know I became a mom in October 2020. Not only was my pregnancy a happy surprise, but the birth of my son was also more of a surprise than my pregnancy (stay tuned for that juicy post).
I found myself in a place like many other first-time mamas overwhelmed… anxious…worried if I was being a good mom… is he breathing through the night…does my son like me, so many different emotions arise when you’re a mommy and I know millions of moms share the same sentiments as I do (did).
Nonetheless, February came with an AHA moment. I literally looked in the mirror and said to myself
“Girl, what have you done for me lately?”

February is synonymous with Valentine’s Day. While I love celebrating love, for the past few years, I built the practice of showing more love to myself and gal friends. Less about focusing on the fact that I did or did not have Valentine’s date or boo.
So my February 2021, I spent the month showing more love to myself and getting back to my self-care game. One of the things I realized and had often heard from so many of my clients or women that I speak to is that after they become a mom, they tend to lose a sense of themselves. I knew back then that struggle was real, but I now too have that experience of wanting to take care of someone more than yourself, and it’s easy to get caught up and lost in new roles.
Here are just the few things I did
I scheduled a 90-minute massage every week
I had a nice romantic dinner with my-self
I purchased sexy new undies
I put on some music and danced around my apartment
I got 3 pedicures
I purchased things for my home that made me feel good about my home
I got dressed up to go out with my amazing boyfriend
All of those things were done with the intention of feeling better about myself. While these things may seem so small, a few small things done over the course of a month can be huge. Not only was it a great month for me, but it also impacted and benefitted my relationship, because when you feel good about yourself, those you love also reap some of those benefits.
February was also a reminder that I shouldn’t just focus on my care in one particular month, but it’s something that should be done with greater intention for my overall well-being.
Now I already knew this, but the birth of my son became the ultimate reminder that I wasn’t doing it enough to affect my overall physical, mental, AND spiritual well-being.
If you’re reading this, it’s no mistake, perhaps this is too the reminder that you need to take care of yourself, especially if you are a mom, a bad-ass boss chick, single, or a caregiver, take -care of yourself.
Peace and Love,
Diane Marie

This was such a good read/ reminder. March is my birthday month. I’m only 4 days in but I intend on doing something every day for my self care. I tend to feel guilty doing something for myself. So I’m working to feel like I am worthy. Thanks Diane.
